The Future of Social Media

Basing the future off of how social media has already evolved pushed me towards the conclusion that it will be totally different than what it is today. Honestly, it is kind of hard to imagine, because I am sure it will be something that most of us would not even think of. Many platforms end up copying each other, after one releases a new tool, so I am sure we will continue to see that. However, I do think that there will be the addition of multiple social media platforms in the future. I don't think it will stay the solid few that are popular today. Possibly another video app, like TikTok or in that realm. A lot of people saw how fast TikTok took off and how successful it has been, so i am sure many people are coming up with new apps to compete with TikTok.

I do think that Instagram will continue to stay at #1 for most used social media. I can't picture how another platform could compete with them. They were some of the first people in the social media game and I think that will stick with them. People are also familiar with the app, which prompts a comfort level with the app. It does have the possibility of taking over Facebook. It happened to Myspace, so I can only assume that Facebook will start to phase out. I think it will forever be in use, especially for the older generation, but I can't see the younger generation making accounts and staying active. Facebook does own Instagram, so they won’t completely go away, but a lot of users are going to become inactive over the next few years as new social media starts to come.

I am super excited to see how social media will evolve over the next few years and even the next 50 years. I am sure I am going to be someone staying up to date, especially due to my major and hopeful career in social media. It will be interesting to see the new tools and trends to come!
